As Mansion Global first reported, the ranch, known as the Climbing Arrow Ranch, went into contract for close to its $136.25 million asking price less than a week after it hit the market. A spokesperson for Swan Land Company declined to comment on the identity of the buyer except to disclose that the buyer is an American citizen.

The deal is expected to close sometime in the summer, the spokesperson told Insider. The current record in Montana is held by the $132.5 million Broken O Ranch, which billionaire Los Angeles Rams owner Stan Kroenke bought in 2012 in a deal also handled by Mike Swan.

Massive Ranch From A River Runs Through It Sells for $136.25 Million After Bidding War

The luxury of owning a lot of land comes at a price, and for a recent Montana ranch deal in particular, it cost a whopping $136.25 million. According to Mansion Global, the 80,000-acre property in the Rocky Mountain West sparked a bidding war and reportedly sold after being on the market only less than a week.

“Since our public release of the listing of the Climbing Arrow Ranch, we have received an extraordinary response from the market, with multiple parties stepping forth immediately,” Swan Land Company listing agent Mike Swan shared in a statement. “We can confirm that the sellers have engaged with a prospective buyer who is currently conducting their inspections of the ranch.”

If all goes well and the deal closes, this will reportedly be one of the most expensive undeveloped ranches purchased in the United States. It’s located around 30 miles outside of Bozeman, a city in the southern part of Montana. The land spans through four counties and is home to seven ranch-style houses built for the staff and caretakers of the property. Moreover, the ranch made an appearance in the 1992 movie A River Runs Through It, which is all about rural life in Montana. It stars Brad Pitt and was directed by Robert Redford.

A River Runs Through a Magnificent Montana Estate Listed for $21.75M

Cast your mind back in time to 1992. For those who remember a young Brad Pitt angling for fish in “A River Runs Through It,” he was only upstaged by the cinematic beauty of the titular river.

And that lovely waterway was Montana’s Gallatin River, which sits just downstream from the resort town of Big Sky.

We can’t promise an appearance by Pitt, but fly-fishing enthusiasts now have the opportunity to buy a luxe log cabin home on two 10-acre parcels, with 1,000 feet of frontage on the Gallatin. And this spread is just down the river from where the movie was filmed.
