The State of Wyoming, acting through the Wyoming Water Development Commission, has acquired a strategic resource in northeast Wyoming.

According to a news release from the WWDC, the acquisition consists of 445 deeded acres, 62,199 acre-feet of water rights in Lake DeSmet, and the two hundred acre Healy Reservoir.

The water assets purchased by the State will be managed by the Wyoming Water Development Office, which will work with Johnson County on the management of Lake DeSmet. Governor Matt Mead said that water and access are key resources, and this acquisition is a significant one. He said he’s pleased to see it come to fruition.
