NILE STOCK SHOW & RODEO

Billings, Montana

The highly prestigious Northern International Livestock Exposition is back! With a reputation of showcasing some of the purest genetic livestock lines in the world.

As the NILE exposition rolls around for its yearly exhibit of livestock showings, rodeo and agricultural judging contests it is interesting to note the exposition wasn’t always what it is today. Like all things, it started with an idea. The idea sprang in 1966 by the livestock committee of the Billings Chamber of Commerce and included livestock shows, horse shows, and rodeo, which have become staples of the event. The first gathering in 1967, located at the Public Auction Yards was just the beginning of a long-standing tradition. The following year it bumped in size to 250 exhibitors and 600 entries.

Its mission is stated as

“NILE is a non-profit organization, 501(c)5, dedicated to the promotion of livestock, agriculture education and respect for the western culture.”

The Nile Stock Show and Rodeo remain tried and true as it has steamrolled into one of the largest agricultural events of the Northwest.

Over the past years, it has widened its girth to include programs to encourage youth participation. Included are the Merit Heifer Program, Jr. Breeding Cattle Shows as well as a program to educate 4th graders in surrounding areas.

In recent years, the NILE organization has grown to host other events including the Montana Agri-Trade Exposition, a large trade show the third week in February as well as hosting the Professional Bull Riders in April.
