Exceptional Eastern Montana Cattle Ranch
Powder River & Carter Counties
Cinch Buckle Ranch
Located 28 miles northeast of Broadus, this working cattle ranch encompasses 8,512± deeded acres complemented by 17,607± acres of State of Montana lease and 12,203± acres of BLM lease, totaling approximately 38,322 acres. Historically rated as a 1,100 cow-calf operation, management has traditionally pursued a flexible stocking strategy, targeting 50% mother cows and the balance in yearlings to capitalize on forage availability; last year exemplified this approach with approximately 300 mother cows and 1,000 yearlings. Winter feeding protocols typically include partial supplementation with alfalfa hay at five to ten pounds per head daily for roughly 120 days beginning in early December, while utilizing existing forage, with full feeding required for approximately 25 days in 2024 and an operational budget of approximately half a ton of hay per cow to sustain the herd through winter. The ranch has been conservatively managed, which is evident by the diverse and healthy stands of native grasses. Multiple stock-tank and reservoir water sources are available in most pastures with an extensive pipeline system serving stock tanks distributed throughout the ranch.
The ranch is situated in Powder River and Carter Counties, a region of Montana known for its diverse terrain of rolling prairies, river bottoms, and rugged breaks supporting abundant populations of mule deer, white-tailed deer, pronghorn antelope, elk, upland birds, and waterfowl.
