Scott Williams came on board with Swan Land Company in 2015 as a licensed agent based in Buffalo, Wyoming.  Since then he has also obtained his real estate license in Nebraska and Montana.  We asked Scott a few questions regarding his work with Swan Land Company, life experiences, and selling ranches.  Take a look below to see what he had to say.

What is a rewarding aspect of working with Swan Land Company?

One of the best aspects of working with Swan Land Company is the ability to serve our clients at the highest level.  I know that my client’s listings will get the most visibility possible through our extensive marketing platform.  Also, the collaboration within our office is unique.  Working closely with brokers of the highest integrity and fidelity raises the bar in this industry – I’m happy to be a part of it.

What is an experience from your life that has led you where you are today or that makes you better at what you do?

The experience that has had the most profound effect on my output is the work ethic I learned from being raised in agriculture – caring for livestock, working long hours, and enjoying every season.  We learned that no matter what the external factors were (i.e. weather, market conditions) that we were responsible and accountable to do our best.  I thank my parents for these foundational principles that continue to help me assist clients through the nuances of the buying and selling process.

What is the best advice that you have received?

Work hard, but don’t put off taking time to be with family and friends.  Selling farms and ranches has us on the road early mornings, late nights, and working many weekends.  I enjoy working hard, but I have learned to enjoy any downtime and not be ashamed of spending some time enjoying the outdoors with the family.

Is there a part of your family history or education that particularly draws you to sell land/ranches?

We often hear “To be successful, stick with what you know”.  My entire life has been spent working with the land.  It is very rewarding to bring buyers and sellers together efficiently because of this understanding of the product we are representing.  It saves clients so much time because we can be very deliberate and effective in pairing the client with a property that fits.

More about Scott – Agent Page

Scott was raised on a working cattle ranch near Saratoga, Wyoming. This childhood experience taught Scott the life lessons of working hard, being accountable, and helping out where needed.  After obtaining a finance degree from the University of Wyoming, Scott and his wife Renee moved to eastern Wyoming to work on a 100,000-acre cattle ranch. With the urge to constantly grow and learn, Scott stepped into the corporate world to successfully manage six large ranches in Wyoming for MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company, an energy subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, and most recently with Sasol, an integrated energy and chemical company based in Johannesburg, South Africa. This has provided Scott the opportunity to manage the synergy between different land uses such as energy development, agriculture, and recreation. It also provided him with an intimate knowledge of the natural resource industry at a national and international level.

Scott is anxious to share his ranching passion and vast knowledge base of the agricultural industry with buyers and sellers seeking competent, personal, and professional representation. Along with great attention to detail, his experience in large ranch transactions, business management, and land stewardship serves clients well.

Scott, Renee, and their two children live near Buffalo, Wyoming. They enjoy spending time together, hiking in the mountains, fly-fishing anywhere possible, and looking for upland birds with their springer spaniel.
