My childhood home was a cattle ranch in southwest Montana near Three Forks, where early mornings with 4-H steers, bull sales, and long days moving irrigation pipe sparked my passion for agriculture and conservation. I’m reminded daily how fortunate I am to have been born, raised, and educated in Montana. (Go Cats!)

Public service gave me a way to put that passion to work. I served in both the Montana State Senate and House, where I chaired the Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks Committee. I retired from public service when my wife and I began our family. From there, I found meaningful work in private land conservation, spending 14 years with Montana Land Reliance, including seven years as Managing Director. I worked side by side with landowners on complex conservation easements that accomplished their goals while preserving Montana’s natural legacy. This included major business and conservation decisions about one of the most cherished assets in the West—land.

I believe integrity, honesty, hard work, experience, and plenty of common sense are the foundation of any successful transaction. Whether it is hashing out details at a kitchen table or bouncing across a pasture in a ranch truck, I am most at home when I am working directly with clients.

I’ve lived in many places in Montana, but today, I reside in Helena with my wife and two children. When I’m not with family, I can be found in the field with my English Setter and German Wirehair chasing wild prairie birds or casting a dry fly on one of Montana’s many rivers. A lifetime of hunting and fishing has given me deep knowledge of habitat and land use, experience I bring to clients who are looking for conservation, regenerative agriculture, or restoration opportunities. I am proud to work for Swan Land Company and to serve clients who share my commitment to Montana’s ranching heritage and world-class fish and wildlife habitat. Together, we can ensure that legacy thrives for generations.

Conservation Easements Saved

“He demonstrated a lot of statesmanship yesterday, something we all wish was more common these days,” said Kendall Van Dyk, the managing director of Montana Land Reliance, which partners with private landowners to permanently protect agricultural lands, fish and wildlife habitat, and open space. According to Tezak, it was his conversations with Van Dyk that prompted him to reconsider the bill.
