Michael S. Swan
Owner & Managing Broker

It was growing up in Southwest Montana where that deep sense of love for the land was first instilled in me. Our family ranch was on the banks of the Jefferson River near Twin Bridges. Being raised on a sizable commercial cow-calf operation, my brothers and I learned the importance of being good stewards of natural resources at a young age, as well as the difference that an unrelenting work ethic, attention to detail, follow through, and taking on high levels of responsibility, can make. This lifestyle shaped my sense of community and ingrained that deep-rooted sense of duty to give back.
In 2002, I obtained my real estate license. I worked my way up to managing broker before eventually founding and taking on my current role as managing broker and owner of Swan Land Company. For me, the real estate business has always been straightforward – it is about the people we serve, earning their trust, and conducting yourself with honesty and integrity. Serving your client’s best interests is the priority – it’s that simple. This singular focus has opened doors and opportunities to serve families across the Rocky Mountains as well as handling large complex and multi-faceted transactions like the Broken O Ranch near Augusta and the Climbing Arrow Ranch (CA Ranch) in the Gallatin Valley – two of the largest transactions in the history of the West.
As important as a mastery of the mechanics of real estate is, I felt there was a missing perspective in the profession. Buying and selling land in the American West is far more than a transaction. It is a seismic shift in the life of the seller—and the buyer, filled with intangibles. I experienced this firsthand when my parents decided to retire and sell our family ranch. Going through that process firsthand provided me insight into the emotional and logistical complexities involved in this life-altering change.
